My Approach to Therapy

Much of my approach to therapy centers around two key concepts: Interpretation and Translation. Understanding these concepts can help you appreciate your own struggle. This, in turn, can result in more effective communication with your partner or partners.

Interpretation

Interpretation is about living your own story. You may find that others have a hard time seeing or understanding your perspective. By the same token, you may find it difficult to understand what others need from you. You may struggle with feeling like you don’t have the answers you need. I find many clients come to me with these concerns. My approach is geared towards bridging the communication gap and restoring understanding.

Translation

Once you start to understand the effect interpretation has on your daily life and interactions, you can then start to focus on translation. We don’t all process information the same way. In recent years, it has become clearer than ever how radically different peoples’ perspectives can be about the same event or situation. If you feel like your partner isn’t hearing what you are saying, or they are hearing something completely different from what you are saying, if  “you don’t understand,” is a common refrain in your relationships, I can definitely help. I can help you and your partner or partners develop the skills you need to really understand each other — even when you are starting from completely different perspectives.
